Super-Intelligent AI

IBM's Grady Booch spoke about super-intelligent AI, a system that can help humans in the long run. The AI isn't going to end up like the movie "The Odyssey" where Hal chooses to continue the mission over saving the people. Hal had complete control over everything something these systems will never be able to achieve. The super AI will be able to learn and reason much like people can through trial and error. Scientists will throw as much information at it as they can so it can learn what it is that they want it to and while it's doing that they can assist it by telling what is good or bad and what may be right or wrong. Despite what scientists believe about AI is that it poses no threats to people because it would have to compete with us while controlling the things around us. All we would have to do is remove it's power supply and that's the end of it. Like many other technologies created, people fear it may also remove something that makes us who we ar...

Stingrays and Privacy

In the early 2000's a young man by the name of Daniel Rigmaiden was using deceased people's credentials to file fraudulent tax returns. He would use the cash to live out in the wild with enough food and drinks for long periods of time. In order to do this though he would enter hotel rooms and use an air card to gain access to cell towers to file the returns. This led on for awhile until he was caught by the FBI and local police. How did they know who he was and where he was? The method he was using to commit the crimes kept his identity hidden as well as his whereabouts. The technology used wasn't very well understood at the time, but police agencies as well as FBI agents were using Stingray devices.  They would only need to track the model number for the card and see the general location and after going there the device will play a game of Marco Polo until it pinpoints the device. Stingray sends out a ping that tricks devices to sending back a response which also provide...

Why I am at MATC

Why I am at MATC? I spoke with my high school counselor about what I should do next and was recommended to MATC because it will jump start my career. I had a teacher who is also a professor here at MATC and he said I should start here because it'll save me money and it will offer opportunities. Last semester of high school I started taking networking classes and spoke with my networking teacher about advancing in the field. They told me to join the IT field and continue (knowing I will be in school for a long time). After talking with them for months I decided to enroll here. Why I chose this field?  I originally chose to be in the IT Support program and was recommended by one of my professors to switch to IT Networking after we had a discussion about my plans for the future. They told me that switching to networking program will provide me with more opportunities. What are my plans for the future? . I plan to continue school to get a bachelor's degree in computer scie...
